Strategic Plan Info Graphic

Kardel’s new Strategic Plan Info Graphic shows our mission, vision, values, and strategic goals for the next three years.  We worked in partnership with Tanya Gadsby to design the new poster and pull together the feedback we worked through with Staci Barter at our Strategic Planning Meeting in November 2015.

PWD Asset Level Increase

Starting December 1st 2015, people receiving the Persons with Disabilities benefit (PWD) will be able to have up to $100,000 in assets without it impacting their eligibility for assistance. Click here for more information.

Changes to the Disability Tax Credit Application

The Canada Revenue Agency has changed the layout of the Disability Tax Credit (DTC) application.  We hope that these new changes will make it easier for people with disabilities to apply for and access the benefits of the DTC.

If you want to apply for the DTC you can download and print the application from the Canada Revenue Agency website or request a copy of the application by calling 1-800-959-8281. Disability Alliance BC has more information about the DTC and the related Registered Disability Savings Plan in Help Sheet 14 of our Help Sheet series.

We hope this helps you to help your clients. If you have questions, please feel free to contact Sam Turcott at 604-872-1278 or 1-800-663-1278

Good luck in your new job Clinton!

Vicki’s retirement

Vicki and Christy

On October 30 we celebrated Vicki’s official retirement from Futures Club.  In the 18 years she spent at Futures, Vicki met lots of wonderful people and had some great experiences.  A definite highlight was February 14, 2013 when she had a surprise visit from Marty the Marmot and got to spend the whole afternoon with him!

We wish Vicki a happy retirement and look forward to lots of visits from her!

Strategic Planning Event

Kardel signGroup work 4

On November 5 we met with a diverse group of stakeholders to celebrate the past three years and collectively discuss plans to strategically plan for the next three years. We had representatives from Kardel staff, family members, Home Share Providers, and people supported.  We were fortunate to have Stacy Barter facilitate the meeting, keep us focused, and on track.  To celebrate we had cake, sparkling apple juice, and a photo booth for fun!  It was a jam-packed day and a great opportunity for people to connect.

On behalf of Kardel we acknowledge and thank the 50 First Nations of Vancouver Island that are in distinct tribal regions, Coast Salish, Nuuchah and Kwakwakw communities – past, present, and future – for their stewardship, care, and leadership on these beautiful lands.

Kardel acknowledges that we are guests on these lands whose traditional territory we live, learn, play and work. We are grateful for the traditional knowledge keepers and Elders who are with us today, those who have gone before us and the youth that continue to inspire us.

We respectfully recognize the land and the benefits it provides for all of us, as an act of reconciliation and gratitude to those whose territory we reside. We will strive to continue to educate ourselves to right the wrongs and address racism on these lands.

We raise our hands in gratitude
